Within this site you will find general information about the District and the ad-valorem property tax system in Texas, as well as information regarding specific properties within the district.
Our Mission: “Improving and maintaining the accuracy and uniformity of appraisals of all property in Kaufman County”. Kaufman CAD strives for excellence in the provision of quality appraisals with sensitivity to the cost of operations and also the interaction with property owners.
During the 88th regular session, the Texas legislature passed Senate Bill (SB) 1801, effective September 1, 2023, which requires the Kaufman Central Appraisal District to develop a program for periodic review of each residence homestead granted under Texas Property Tax Code Section 11.13. The bill requires the Chief Appraiser verify each residence homestead at least every 5-years to confirm the recipient of the exemptions still qualify. For more information Click here.
There is no charge or fee associated with receiving or filing an exemption application with the Kaufman Central Appraisal District.
The Kaufman Central Appraisal District is now accepting applications for Appraisal Review Board members for the 2026-2027 term. Applications and Qualifications can be found on our Appraisal Review Board page under the Appraisal District tab. Applications may be mailed to P.O. Box 819 Kaufman, Texas 75142 or be hand delivered at 3950 S Houston Street in Kaufman.
As we begin the process of field inspections the following School Districts are in the Reappraisal Plan for 2026: Crandall and Terrell. Properties in these entities will be visited by a KCAD appraiser along with any other property within Kaufman County that we believe may need inspection.
Notice: The Appraisal District is giving public notice of the capitalization rate to be used each year to appraise property receiving an exemption under Section 11.1825 of the Property Tax Code for Organizations Constructing or Rehabilitating Low-Income Housing: Property Not Previously Exempt. 2025 Low Income Housing Apartment Capitalization Rate: 7.5% – 9.5%
